Description

NOTE: This test is ONLY AVAILABLE TO AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS.
Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that plays a vital role in regulating blood glucose levels and managing the body’s storage of carbohydrates and fats. After eating, blood glucose levels rise, triggering the pancreas to release insulin, which helps glucose enter the body’s cells for energy. Without insulin, glucose remains in the bloodstream, unable to enter most cells, leading to cell starvation and severe health complications. Abnormal insulin levels can signal insulin resistance, a condition where the body’s cells become less responsive to insulin, often leading to higher blood sugar levels and an increased risk of Type 2 Diabetes. For those with Type 1 Diabetes, an autoimmune condition that destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, external insulin is required to regulate glucose levels. This test is especially useful for individuals with a family history of diabetes, those showing signs of metabolic syndrome, or anyone interested in optimising their health by understanding their glucose metabolism.
