Description

NOTE: This test is ONLY AVAILABLE TO AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS.
Anticardiolipin antibodies are autoantibodies linked to blood clotting issues and autoimmune disorders, particularly Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), which increases the risk of abnormal blood clots. Elevated levels of these antibodies can cause the immune system to mistakenly target phospholipids, key components of cell membranes, leading to blood clots in veins and arteries. This increased clotting risk can result in severe health complications, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), strokes, pulmonary embolism, and recurrent miscarriages, which are common concerns for individuals with these conditions. Testing for anticardiolipin antibodies is crucial if you have a history of unexplained blood clots, recurrent pregnancy loss, or autoimmune disorders like Lupus. Early detection of high antibody levels allows for timely intervention, reducing the risk of serious complications. Regular monitoring is often recommended, as changes in antibody levels can affect clotting risks, making early detection and preventative care essential for those with APS or related conditions.
