B Vitamin Supplements
As B-vitamins are commonly supplemented and consumed for optimal health and well-being it is recommended to assess these levels for optimal health. Each B vitamin performs unique and important functions. Some B vitamins can be in shortage even when being supplemented and other B vitamins can cause toxic excesses therefore it’s important to know your vitamin B levels before using supplements. B vitamins are key nutrients needed for proper energy production, so making sure your B’s are properly balanced is vitally important and this can only be done by testing for B vitamin key levels.
B Vitamins and Deficiencies
The role of B vitamins is complex, they often work together to achieve optimal health so it’s important to understand that if you are deficient in just one of the B vitamins then other B vitamins can’t do their job properly and individual B vitamins are often relied upon by other varied vitamins and minerals. Deficiencies of B vitamins can occur for many different reasons, here are some basic facts for each of the B vitamins that are included in this test:
Vitamin B1: Essential for energy production, brain function and digestion. B1 also helps the body make use of proteins such as amino acids. B1 needed to produce cellular energy from the foods you eat, and is also required for the synthesis of DNA and RNA.
Vitamin B2: Helps turn fats, sugars and proteins into energy. B2 is needed to repair and maintain healthy skin inside and outside. It helps to regulate body acidity. B2 is also important for nail, hair and eyes. Is a basic building block for normal growth and development. It is needed for healthy cellular energy production and also supports the antioxidant activity in the body.
Vitamin B6: Essential for protein digestion and utilization, brain function and hormone production. B6 helps balance sex hormones such as estrogen and testosterone. B6 Is involved in over 100 cellular reactions throughout the body, vitamin B6 is instrumental in keeping various bodily functions operating at their best. B6 is a natural anti-depressant and diuretic and helps control allergic reactions.
Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid): Is critical during pregnancy for development of the brain and nerves. B9 is always essential for brain and nerve function, is needed for utilising protein and in red blood cell formation. B9 is needed for DNA synthesis, the formation of red blood cells and for the metabolism of amino acids.
Vitamin B12: Needed for making use of proteins, it helps the blood carry oxygen. B12 is essential for nerves and is also needed to deal with tobacco smoke and other toxins. B12 Plays a critical role in the pathways of the body that produce cellular energy. It is also needed for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation and for healthy nervous system function.
