Do you have food allergies?

The IgA allergy test is a simple test that you can do at your home or office.  The test includes testing for 96 common food allergens by checking each food against your body’s IgA antibodies.

The Allergy General Foods Test

The general food allergy test is a simple test that can be done right near your home or office.  Testing for food allergies is really important and can help to bring a great deal of relief once the allergic foods are found.  The test includes:

  • An authorized blood specimen order form that you take to your local accredited pathology for collection of your blood (Find a pathology near you here).
  • A blood specimen test kit for the pathology to use to collect your blood sample
  • Complete instructions for taking the test for you and the pathology
  • Note, pathology will charge approximately $33.00 to take your sample

Test results are sent to one of our professional health practitioners within 7 business days for evaluation.  Our practitioners contact you with the results and recommendations on any findings via email, mail or phone.

How The Allergy Test Works

The IgA food allergy test is measuring the IgA antibodies primarily found in the mucous secretions, this test is ideal for food allergy reactions that occur about immediately after exposure to the food allergen such as within a few minutes to a few hours.  The IgA allergy test is regarded as a Type 1 immediate hypersensitivity reaction, the antibodies of IgA have an immediate reaction which are caused by an allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (IgA) antibody that floats around in the blood stream.

IgA food allergies cause your immune system to react abnormally when exposed to one or more specific foods. Some of the common foods that people have an IgA reaction to are things like nuts, milk and eggs. The IgA allergy test picks up on IgA reactions to foods on the below list which are then considered allergens.  It is recommended that IgA allergy testing is only performed for infants greater than 18 months of age.

Allergies Vs Intolerance’s & Sensitivities

Some people have allergies to certain foods, this means that when they consume a specific food that they are allergic to, their body’s immune system responds by attacking the substance in order to protect them from the substance.  Allergies are always related to an immune system response.  On the other hand many people have food intolerance’s, this means that when they consume a food that “disagrees” with them they experience symptoms that often seem like an allergy however the immune system isn’t involved which is difference between an allergy and an intolerance.

Food intolerance’s or food sensitivity’s are your body’s way of saying, “I can’t digest that” or “That food is irritating” or “That food in not compatible with me”.  If you believe that you may have a food intolerance you may benefit from a food compatibility program or food intolerance and sensitivity testing.
