Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that functions as a cofactor in the production of blood coagulation factors (in the liver), osteocalcin (in bone), and matrix Gla-proteins (in cartilage and vessel walls), each resulting in the deposition of ionic calcium.

Monitoring vitamin K can help reduce risk of osteoporotic bone fractures, cardiovascular disease, and possibly some cancers by identifying individuals who may have a vitamin K deficiency.

The vitamin K test can be done right near your home or office.  Testing for vitamin K imbalances is really important due to it’s ability to prevent many serious health problems, the test includes:

  • An authorized blood specimen order form that you take to your local accredited pathology for collection of your blood (Find a pathology near you here).
  • A blood specimen test kit for the pathology to use to collect your blood sample
  • Complete instructions for taking the test for you and the pathology
  • The test is a vitamin K assay (Undercarboxylated Osteocalcin)
