The zinc test is a simple test you can do right from your home or office,  The test only takes a minute and takes an accurate account of your zinc levels, it measures your body’s zinc levels which helps you to determine if your zinc is balanced, is toxic or  if you have a zinc deficiency.

The Zinc Test

The zinc test is a simple blood test that can be done right near your home or office.  Testing for zinc imbalances is really important due to it’s ability to cause many common health problems.  The test includes:

  • An authorized blood specimen order form that you take to your local accredited pathology for collection of your blood (Find a pathology near you here).
  • A blood specimen test kit for the pathology to use to collect your blood sample
  • Complete instructions for taking the test for you and the pathology
  • Note, pathology will charge approximately $33.00 to take your sample

Test results are sent to one of our professional health practitioners within 7 business days for evaluation.  Our practitioners contact you with the results and recommendations on any findings via email, mail or phone.

About Zinc

Zinc is a component of over 200 enzymes in the body, these enzymes act as catalysts in the body make lots of your body’s chemicals work together so zinc is a very important mineral that many people have deficiencies with.  Zinc is also a component of DNA and RNA, is essential for growth, important for healing, controls hormones which are messengers from organs such as testes and ovaries.  Zinc aids in the ability to cope with stress effectively, promotes a healthy nervous system and brain especially in the growing foetus, zinc aids bone and teeth formation, helps hair to bloom and is essential for constant energy.
Zinc deficiency is a common problem with many people having the deficiency without knowing it which can lead to disease. While zinc deficiency can be cause through poor diet there are many other factors that can disrupt this imporant mineral, foods such as wheat which contain phytates, rhubarb, spinach, chocolate and tea which contain oxalates rob are considered robbers of zinc.  High calcium intake (including supplements), low protein intake or amino acid deficiency, excess sugar intake, stress and alcohol all contribute to the loss of zinc.
Copper, another important mineral also affects zinc.  Copper excess can result from a zinc deficiency and a zinc deficiency can result from toxic levels of copper, so it’s important to have your copper levels checked at the same time as your zinc levels test.
